Bhutan Jhomolhari Trek

Day 01: Arrive Paro by Druk-Air.(L/D)
Fly onboard Druk Air to Paro, Bhutan.  On a clear day the panoramic views of the Himalaya are sensational, including Everest, but particularly exciting is the approach through the Bhutanese foothills and the landing, including a few steep turns to land at the tiny airstrip of Paro. In Paro you will be received by your Bhutanese guide and transferred to your hotel.

Day 02: In Paro Valley (Acclimatization) (B/L/D)
Spend the day acclimatizing and visiting the tourists sites in the valley, including Ta Dzong , the museum, Rinpung Dzong, farm houses, the Kyichu lhakhang and so forth.

Day 03: Excursion to Taktsang (B/L/D)
Today we visit the Paro valley, site of the famous Tiger's Nest, the Taktsang Monastery where the legendary Guru Padmasambhava is believed to have flown from Tibet on the back of a tiger to defeat the demons who were opposing the spread of Buddhism in Bhutan. The walk is long, and can be steep in places, but the views are stunning. After lunch at the cafeteria, return to Paro.

Day 04: Trek begins: Paro - Shana (B/L/D)
Drive up to Drugyal Dzong where the road ends and start the trek by following the river gently uphill through a narrowing valley of paddy fields. You will find plenty of traditional farm houses in a purely rural setting. The camp site is just beyond an army outpost. Alt. 2800m, Distance - 17 km and time 5-6 Hr. O/n Camp

Day 05: Trek Shana - Soe Thangthangkha (B/L/D)
Continue uphill through the river valley which narrows and closes in after some distance. The trail then winds up and down along the drainage. Most of the trail actually is down hill after the initial climb. The camp site is located in a meadow with stone shelter. Alt. Approx. 3400m, distance 15 km, time 4-5 Hr. O/n Camp

Day 06: Trek Soe Thangthangkha – Jangothang (B/L/D)
Walk up along the Pachu (Paro river), pass a small army outpost where the valley begins to widen again. You can now clearly view the high ridges and the snow capped mountains all around and also see the yaks and the yak herders winter homes. Camp beneath a ruined fortress at the base of the Chomolhari mountain. Alt. 4040m. , Distance 19 km and time 5-6 Hr. O/n Camp

Day 07: Rest day at Jangothang (B/L/D)
Rest or explore around. Hike towards the Mt. Chomolhari or towards Tsophu lake filled with trouts. O/n Camp

Day 08: Trek Jangothang - Lingshi  (B/L/D)
Walk up toward the pass through a wide pasture land. Depending on the season you are there, you might find some yak herders in their camping tents along the way. As you come down after the pass to the Lingshi basin, you will see some beautiful views of the Lingshi Dzong and the valley and also Tserim Kang (mountain) and its descending glaciers at the north end of the valley. Camp in a stone shelter with a built-in fire pit or in the tent. Alt. 4150m. Distance 19 km. Time 5-6 Hr. O/n Camp

Day 09: Lingshi – Shodu (B/L/D)
The path follows the stream up towards the valley opposite the Dzong, gradually ascending through the valley for about four hours until the stiff climb at the pass. After the pass it is a long and gradual descent to the Shodu camp at an altitude of 3750m. Walking time 9/10 hours. O/n Camp

Day 10: Shodu – Barshong (B/L/D)
At this place one comes back to the treeline. The path follows the Thimphu river, descending through the rhododendron, juniper and other alpine forests. The view of the cliff facing rocks and waterfall is stunning. Hot lunch will be served by the river side. After lunch the trail gradually ascends to the ruins of Barshong Dzong, reaching the camp at the altitude of 3.600m. Walking time 6/7 hours. O/n Camp

Day 11: Barshong – Dalamkencho (B/L/D)
The route descends through alpine forests and once again join Thimphu river for a while. After lunch climb up to Dalamkencho camp at the altitude of 3,600m. Walking time 5/6 hours. O/n Camp

Day 12: Dalamkencho – Dodena – Thimphu (B/L/D)
The path descends through bamboo forests all the way to Dalamkencho, finally joining Thimphu river again. Arrive at Dodena where you will be picked up by Wind Horse transport and transferred to Thimphu.

Day 13: Thimphu – Paro (B/L/D)
Full day of sightseeing in Thimphu valley visiting; Memorial Chorten, Tashichodzong, National Library, folk heritage and textile museums, Painting School, Traditional Medicine Institute, Handicrafts Emporium.
Evening drive to Paro. O/n Hotel

Day 14: Paro depart (B)
After early breakfast in the hotel, drive to the airport for flight to onward journey.
